Le trio féminin du Liverpool FC Sofie Lundgaard, Beata Olsson et Lily Woodham raconte son parcours dans le football dans les nouveaux épisodes de « Backyard Dreams ».

Three instalments of the series presented by Husqvarna – the club’s official lawn care partner – have been released and can be watched below, in which the players sit down with former Reds star Steve McManaman.

They each look back on how they were first inspired to become professionals and the challenges they have overcome en route to now wearing the Liver bird.

Woodham, a Wales international and Reds fan, reveals her idols as a child and how they influenced the player she wanted to be.

“I used to love Stevie G [Steven Gerrard] and John Arne Riise,” the left-back tells McManaman. “They were the kind of players I liked because they were workhorses, they used to run after everything, they used to put everything into football.

“That’s something I want to do – I want to work hard, I want to be someone that never stops and never quits.

“And then I used to watch [Lionel] Messi a lot, obviously his dribbling ability was crazy. I kind of went, ‘Right, who do I want to be?’ and put them all together!”

Danish midfielder Lundgaard grew up within a football-mad family, though faced a fork in the road of her potential future as a teen.

“I played football and handball until I was like 13, and then I kind of had to decide if I wanted to go all-in or what I wanted to do,” she says.

“So, I decided to go with football and never looked back since.”

Citing her role models in the game as Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Alexis Mac Allister and Pernille Harder, the No.15 adds: “I always dreamed of playing for a big club in Europe. [Now I’m at] the biggest and the best club, right?”

Olsson honed her skills as a child by playing football with a cousin and close friends, before tussling with elders to help accelerate her progress.

The Swedish striker explains: “When I was little, I just did keepy-ups with my cousin – we competed [for] whoever could do the most.

“I trained with girls mainly, but I trained with older girls, which I think especially when you’re growing and becoming bigger, that made a big deal for me because I had to challenge myself physically.”

On handling the pressure that comes with her position particularly, she continues: “I think that’s what I work on the most. Outside of football, that’s my main thing.

“I’ve just started to realise that I will never score if I put pressure on myself to do it.

“You have a certain feeling if you’re a striker – you go into a game and know, ‘I can score at any moment.’ Which is kind of what I think I’ve done so far maybe at Liverpool.”

Official LFC partner Husqvarna supplies robotic mowing solutions across all levels of football, from gardens to grassroots clubs and up to the professional arena.
