The Liverpool captain has been announced as one of eight nominees for the prize after an outstanding individual campaign.

In his first season as skipper, Van Dijk has led the Reds back to Champions League qualification, playing in all but two of the side's top-flight fixtures so far this term.

Within the defender's 34 appearances have been two goals scored – against Sheffield United and Luton Town – and eight clean sheets.

Also included on the shortlist for the award are Phil Foden, Erling Haaland, Alexander Isak, Martin Odegaard, Cole Palmer and Declan Rice.
