Honours: Carabao Cup (2022). Premier League (2020)
Japan international Takumi Minamino joined Liverpool on the first day of 2020 after five seasons of success and development with Red Bull Salzburg.
He technically ended the 2019-20 campaign as a league champion in both Austria and England, with the No.18 showing glimpses of his attacking potential after making the switch to Merseyside.
Not long before the transfer, Minamino dazzled at Anfield while playing for Salzburg in the Champions League group stages, scoring and assisting as the visitors fought back from three goals down in a tie they ultimately lost 4-3.
And little over a week after the return meeting in December 2019, Minamino was at Melwood to complete a medical and sign a long-term contract to join the Reds.
He made his debut for the club when he started Liverpool's 1-0 win over Everton in the FA Cup third round on January 5, 2020.
His first Premier League start arrived on June 21, 2020, when Liverpool resumed action following the pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic away at Everton for a goalless draw.
In total, Minamino made 14 appearances during his first season as a Red and claimed a Premier League winner’s medal.
The frontman began 2020-21 by striking his maiden goal for the club, which came in the Community Shield defeat to Arsenal at Wembley.
He followed that up with a brace against Lincoln City in the EFL Cup before he netted for the first time in the Premier League when he struck the first of Liverpool's seven goals at Crystal Palace in December 2020.
On February 2, 2021, Minamino agreed a deal to join Southampton on loan until the conclusion of the campaign.
