Liverpool have moved ahead of Arsenal in the race to sign French wonderkid Bilel Hassaini, according to reports.

Hassaini, 18, is one of the most in-demand attacking midfielders in Europe and spent last season with Nancy in France.

His contract expired at the end of the 2018-19 campaign and he is yet to agree new terms with the Ligue 2 side, with a host of clubs queuing up to sign him on a free transfer.

Nancy would be due some compensation, having brought him through their ranks, and Arsenal were thought to be favourites to sign him.

However, French media outlet Foot Mercato claim Liverpool are now in pole position.

Saint-Etienne are also said to have held talks with him, while Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain are also credited with an interest in the player.
