Liverpool are prepared to shatter their transfer record to sign Monaco’s attacking midfielder Thomas Lemar.

The Echo understands that the Reds have stepped up their interest in the France international with a bid of around £60million

Jürgen Klopp has been keen to bolster his midfield options prior to Thursday’s transfer deadline and believes the gifted 21-year-old, who can play centrally or out wide, fits the bill.

The deal isn’t linked to Philippe Coutinho’s future with Liverpool adamant that he will be staying put regardless of who they bring in.

Lemar was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal earlier this summer but their interest was repeatedly rebuffed by Monaco.

The French outfit have lost a number of key players in recent months and are reluctant to sell Lemar, but Liverpool hope the size of the offer will convince them to do business.

One potential stumbling block is Lemar’s presence in the France squad. Boss Didier Deschamps had declared that any player still looking to move clubs needed to have his future sorted out by today.
