Liverpool face stiff competition from Bayern Munich for German winger Julian Brandt.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp likes Brandt and has had the Bayer Leverkusen wide man watched several times.

Klopp knows he must strengthen Liverpool's squad this summer and is preparing a move for the £20million-rated Brandt.

However Bayern could beat Liverpool for Brandt's signature and it is understood they have opened talks over a possible move to the Allianz Arena.

Brandt, 20, has huge potential and Bayern see him as a long-term replacement for Thiago Alcantara.

The forward has been capped by Germany at every level from Under-15 to Under-21 and was part of their victorious team which won the U19 European Championships in 2014.

Brandt opened up about the possibility of leaving Leverkusen earlier this month.

“You can take the step (abroad), but I don’t think you have to,” he told Deutsche Welle. “Those that back themselves to do it have nothing in their way.

“I don’t think it’s a bad thing to try and find your feet abroad. Julian (Draxler) and Leroy (Sane) are the best examples of that right now. They are both young players and have huge futures ahead of them.

“It’s tough to say. I’m happy here and what happens next, we will see.”
