Liverpool are lining up a summer move for Borussia Dortmund's World Cup winner Mario Gotze.

Jurgen Klopp wants a reunion with attacking midfielder Gotze and initial talks about an end-of-season switch are understood to have taken place.

Liverpool were keen to sign Gotze, 24, last summer from Bayern Munich.

But their lack of Champions League football cost them and Gotze, who scored the goal that won Germany the 2014 World Cup, opted for a move back to Dortmund instead.

Gotze, though, has failed to hit the same heights he did in his first spell at Dortmund under Klopp.

And he is now eyeing a new challenge to kickstart his career after failing to nail down a spot in Thomas Tuchel's side, prompting Liverpool to revive their previous interest.

Dortmund paid £20m to re-sign Gotze and will want to recoup as much of that fee as possible.
