Livepool are reportedly ready to activate the £43million release clause of Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams.

Express Sport revealed last year that Liverpool were interested in signing the 22-year-old Spaniard.

And Italian outlet Calcio Mercato claim the Reds are now ready to land Williams in the summer with Jürgen Klopp looking to bolster his ranks as he bids to avoid a repeat of their recent slump.

Williams has a release clause of €50m euros (£43m) and Klopp is apparently now ready to renew his interest in the La Liga star by triggering this clause in his contract in an attempt to bring him to Anfield.

But Williams has poured cold water of these rumours after he admitted that his first choice is to stay at Bilbao.

"Lots of things are coming out in the news but I am calm," Williams told Sportium.

"If [Liverpool] are looking at me it's because I'm doing things well. I'm very lucky.

"If tomorrow I had to leave I would always be very honest with Athletic. They've given me everything.

"The first I would do is speak to the president [if I wanted to leave.]"

Williams has been in fine form this season, scoring four goals and providing seven assists across all competitions.
