Liverpool are preparing a move for Schalke and Germany playmaker Max Meyer, according to French publication Le 10 Sport.

Jurgen Klopp is said to be an admirer of the 21-year-old, having come up against him whilst in charge of Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund, and will tell the Reds to make a bid in the January transfer window.

Liverpool face competition from Barcelona for the Germany prospect, who has scored once in his three appearances for his national side, though Schalke are determined to hold on to him.
