Newcastle United are expected to insist on a lump sum offer if Liverpool are to win the race for the signature of Holland international Georginio Wijnaldum.

The 25-year-old is keen to make a move back to the Premier League after relegation with Rafa Benitez’s men last season.

However Newcastle want full value out of the player who joined them 12 months ago from PSV Eindhoven.

Reports in the North East suggest Newcastle have rejected any suggestion of staggered payments and want a one-off payment as close to their £27m valuation as possible.

Wijnaldum was Newcastle’s top scorer with 11 last year and would command wages of around £60,000-per-week at Anfield.

Liverpool turned their attention to the midfielder/striker after a protracted attempt to sign Piotr Zielinski from Udinese proved unsuccessful.
