Liverpool are readying a summer bid for Borussia Dortmund's Ilkay Gundogan, according to reports.

Gundogan's current deal has just 16 months left to run and he told Dortmund he was considering his future after penning the one-year extension last summer.

"You can always see from two different perspectives," he said.

"Some will say, okay, he has extended, and if he should go next year, the club will therefore still get a lot of money. So it's all good.

"And others say it's only one year. Everyone has to form his own opinion - I just want to be honest.

"I appreciate this wonderful club very much, but my life plan also looks at some time with a new challenge."

And according to website Football Insider, that 'new challenge' could be Liverpool, as Jurgen Klopp is keen to bring the midfielder to Anfield.

A source close to the club has revealed the Reds are readying a summer bid for the German international and Klopp has asked to be kept informed about his situation.

Gundogan has made 100 league appearances for Dortmund since joining from FC Nurnberg in 2011, scoring 10 goals.
