Bayern Munich sporting director Matthias Sammer admits Liverpool target Mario Gotze's future is unclear.

The Germany World Cup winner hero put Liverpool on alert last week when he admitted he could leave Bayern and talked of his admiration for new boss Jurgen Klopp.

With his contract up in 2017, Gotze claimed he would make a decision on his future after speaking to Carlo Ancelotti, who will take over from Pep Guardiola in the summer.

And although Sammer described the speculation as "madness", he failed to confirm that Gotze will stay at Bayern long-term.

"I said it was madness when there were rumours about a transfer in January, whereas Mario was talking about the end of the season," Sammer said.

"Mario's comments were an indication that we will have to sit down at some point in the coming months and discuss his situation. That is only logical.

"I cannot see anything negative about what Mario said. He has put a few things up for discussion and we will clarify everything in the second half of the season.

"A lot of things will have been resolved by then."
