Liverpool look set to make a club record bid for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka, according to reports.

German newspaper Bild claim the Reds are considering a £37million bid for the Switzerland international, trumping the £35m they paid for Andy Carroll in 2011.

Xhaka has helped Monchengladbach rise to fourth place in the Bundesliga this season and has scored three goals in 16 games.

The 23-year-old, who has also picked up three red cards, would provide Jurgen Klopp with a much needed creative spark in his side's midfield.

His agent, who is also his father, has refused to rule out a transfer for his son.

"At the moment I prefer not to say too much," Ragip Xhaka said.

"We’ll see what happens. I can say that several big clubs are interested. Everything is possible, we’re not ruling anything out."

Arsenal, Tottenham, Bayern Munich and Napoli are also reportedly interested in Xhaka.
