Liverpool are favourites to sign Martin Caceres despite interest from Italian giants Inter and AC Milan according to reports.

The 28-year-old is out of contract in the summer but Juventus are keen to cash in on the defender in the January transfer window.

And while Serie A rivals Inter and AC Milan are both interested in the Uruguayan international, Juve would rather sell outside of their own division.

Reports last week had suggested that Turkish side Besiktas had also joined Monaco and Fenerbahce in the race for Caceres.

However, Corriere dello Sport is now reporting that Liverpool is the most likely destination for the Juve defender, who has not played competitive football since September.

Caceres signed for the Old Lady of Italian football in 2012 having had two loan spells at the club, the first while a Barcelona player and then Sevilla, from whom he eventally made the permanent move.

But he has fallen out of Massimiliano Allegri’s starting line-up this season and would rather return to first-team football sooner than later.

And with Liverpool struggling defensively, Caceres is seen as a perfect cut-price player to come to Anfield in January.
