Liverpool are trying to complete a January swoop for defender Maximilian Hofmann.

The 22-year-old has been in impressive form for Rapid Wien this season and has caught the eye of a number of clubs.

German sides Bayer Leverkusen and Hamburg have scouted the Austrian, as have teams in Russia.

However, according to Calciomercato, Liverpool are hopeful they can bring Hofmann to Anfield this January.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of the centre-back and tried to sign him during his time in charge of Borussia Dortmund.

But Rapid Wien rebuffed several approaches and they are likely to put up stubborn resistance this time too.
