Borussia Dortmund will not consider selling Neven Subotic to Liverpool, according to German club's sporting director Michael Zorc.

Subotic has a close relationship with Reds boss Jürgen Klopp having worked under him at Dortmund and Mainz.

Klopp is targeting defensive reinforcements in January and next summer in order to turn Liverpool into genuine title contenders - and he has been keeping a close watch on Subotic, with reports suggesting he will be Klopp's first signing at the Anfield helm.

However, Dortmund chief Zorc says selling Subotic is not on his agenda.

"We are still in the first half of the season. From our end, there are no considerations with regard to releasing him," Zorc told Bild.

"But we will discuss the situation [with regards to his contract] with him eventually, of course."
