Reds renew efforts to sign Madrid star
Liverpool will once again try to sign Denis Cheryshev despite failing to attract his signature over the summer.
The Russian has been on the back pages of Spanish newspapers today after his appearance in a Copa del Rey match for Real may see them disqualified from the competition, after it was discovered that he should have been serving a one-game ban at the time.
The 24-year-old scored inside four minutes as Los Blancos won 3-1 in Cadiz, but was substituted shortly after half-time when Madrid realised their mistake.
And now according to reports in Spain, the attacking midfielder will once again be targeted by Jürgen Klopp as Liverpool steel themselves for a dark-horse title bid.
Cheryshev has been with Madrid since 2002 when he signed as a 12-year-old, but has made minimal impact in the first team, having had loan spells with Sevilla and most recently Villarreal, where he caught the eye of Liverpool's transfer committee.
But Cheryshev, who has nine caps for Russia, is hoping to make more first team appearances ahead of next summer's European Championship, and is willing to move to make that happen.
Liverpool are also rumoured to face competition from city rivals Everton, although if a bidding war were to break out, the Reds are likely to be the winners.
