Steven Gerrard could make an amazing return to Liverpool, perhaps in a playing capacity, according to reports.

Gerrard left Anfield at the end of last season and signed for LA Galaxy at the start of the summer.

The 35-year-old’s debut season in the States ended in disappointment as his side were eliminated from the MLS play-offs after defeat to Seattle Sounders.

But according to the Independent, a return to Anfield could be on for Gerrard.

The report suggests Jurgen Klopp has spoken to Gerrard several times since being appointed Reds boss last month.

It is thought however that LA Galaxy aren’t willing to sanction a loan deal and would want a fee for Gerrard, who has one year left to run on his existing contract.

Gerrard, it is believed will consult his friends and family before deciding his next move.

The latest development is an intriguing twist, as Gerrard admitted he could hang up his boots next year.

He said: “It could be my last season as a footballer. I certainly don’t want to feel like I’m feeling right now come next year.

"I’d love to go out on a high. It’s a long season and I only came here for the last four months, but I’ll certainly be better for the experience next year."
