Liverpool are tracking Schalke winger Leroy Sane - despite having seen a summer bid rejected for the 19-year-old.

According to Bild, the Reds had an £11million bid for Sane rejected during the transfer window, as Brendan Rodgers sought to further his attacking options.

The Reds are reportedly continuing to monitor the young forward, who has scored three goals in his last three games for Die Konigsblauen.

Sane, who signed a two-year contract extension with Schalke in the summer - taking him through to 2019 - has also recently been linked with a switch to Tottenham.

But the Bundesliga side are unlikely to sanction any deal for one of their leading young talents, having sold prize asset Julian Draxler to Wolfsburg for £25million in August.

Schalke aren't under any pressure to sell and new coach Andre Breitenreiter has already sought to make a number of young stars - including Sane, Max Meyer, Leon Goretzka and Johannes Geis - the blueprint of his new-look side.

Sane made his Schalke breakthrough last season, scoring in a sensational 4-3 win against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

This term, the Germany under-21 international has made nine appearances so far, and struck the winner in the 1-0 away win at Hamburg on Saturday.
