Liverpool’s hopes of signing Paris Saint Germain midfielder Thiago Motta have been significantly boosted after it emerged that his move to Atletico Madrid was on the verge of collapsing.

The 32-year-old looked to be close to moving back to Diego Simeone's side but the deal hit a snag which has opened the door for Brendan Rodgers' side, according to Marca.

The Reds have made seven signings this summer but Rodgers is keen to add depth in defensive midfield.

Liverpool could now move for the former Inter Milan midfielder with PSG willing to let him leave after four seasons with the club.
