Arsenal and Liverpool have received a boost in their pursuit of Thiago Motta, according to reports in Spain.

The Paris Saint Germain midfielder looked set to join Atletico Madrid.

Motta, at PSG since 2012 after leaving Inter Milan, wants a fresh challenge.

The 32-year-old has been monitored by the Premier League duo but their bids appeared over with Atletico's interest.

Motta spent the 2007-08 season at the Vicente Calderon, but hardly featured under Javier Aguirre.

However a return, to play under Diego Simeone, looked his most likely move.

But Spanish paper Marca are reporting the deal has "hit a snag".

And that could allow the Gunners or the Reds to re-open their interest.
