Liverpool are reportedly poised to sign Asier Illarramendi who has been told he can leave Real Madrid this summer for the right price.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is still thought to be on the lookout for new faces ahead of the September 1 transfer deadline and has been alerted by the availability of Illarramendi.

The 25-year-old Spanish midfielder joined Los Blancos from Real Sociedad in a deal worth over 32 million euros two years ago, but he slipped down the pecking order last term with just 10 starts under coach Carlo Ancelotti.

The arrival of Rafa Benitez this summer does not appear to have changed Illarramendi's fortunes in terms of his first-team opportunities at the Bernabeu.

As a result it seems the club will listen to offers and Liverpool are believed to be at the front of the queue with around £15million on the table.

If that offer is forthcoming reports in Spain suggest Real Madrid will sell and Illarramendi will be the quality defensive midfield player which Rodgers has been scouring the market for.
