Round-upInternationals: Elliott scores brilliant goal, Gakpo and Van Dijk reach Euros
Harvey Elliott scored a brilliant goal for England U21s while Cody Gakpo and Virgil van Dijk qualified for Euro 2024 with the Netherlands on Saturday.
Both Gakpo and Van Dijk started for the Dutch against the Republic of Ireland – for whom Caoimhin Kelleher was an unused substitute – in Amsterdam.
Wout Weghorst’s early goal was enough to separate the sides and secure a result that confirms the Netherlands’ spot at next year’s tournament.

Elliott wrapped up a 3-0 victory for the Young Lions away from home against Serbia in qualifying for the U21 European Championship.
The Liverpool midfielder collected the ball around 25 yards from goal and dispatched a clinical effort into the bottom right corner.
Elliott played the whole match in Backa Topola, while on-loan Tyler Morton and Jarell Quansah were second-half introductions from the bench.
At U19 level, Calum Scanlon played a key role in England claiming a 3-2 victory over Japan in the second of their three fixtures in Marbella.
Sent on as a substitute just past the hour mark, Scanlon provided the assist for Jamie Donley to score the game’s winning goal in the last minute.
