Charlie Adam insists he would have no qualms about sacrificing his impressive strike rate in favour of trophies.

The midfielder was a prolific marksman during his time at Blackpool and was on target from the penalty spot in only his second outing for Liverpool in the 6-3 win over a Malaysia XI on Saturday.

However, the Scotland star is adamant he would swap any personal glory in order to assist the Reds in their pursuit of honours next term.

Adam said: "The lads have received me really well and helped me ease into the team And I'm happy this has shown on the pitch so far.

"But I came to Liverpool to win titles and I would trade in anything for that, even if it meant not scoring at all next season.

Adam reflects on his first LFC strike in his exclusive Asia diary

"It's going to be tough, but with our latest signings I'm confident enough to say that we will pose a genuine assault for not only the Premier League, but for the cups as well."

In just two appearances for the club, Adam has made a good impression in the midfield and appears to have built up an almost instant rapport with his teammates.

"Our on-field understanding has been really good," he said.

"It feels like we have been playing together for a long time. But Liverpool have got many other talented midfielders, the likes of Gerrard, Lucas, Meireles and Henderson.

"I think the competition for places will be good for the club. I thrive on that type of challenge and I'm sure the others lads will as well."

Meanwhile, assistant boss Steve Clarke paid tribute to the returning Alberto Aquilani who produced an eye-catching 45 minute cameo in Kuala Lumpur.

"The partnership of Adam and Aquilani was good," said Clarke. "They are showing real promise. We have always known how good a player he is.

"He has the quality to stay on and fight for his place in the first team.

"The tour has helped the players settle in and bond with each other.

"The matches here have been challenging, but they should brace themselves for even tougher training when we get back home."
