Charlie Adam admitted it was a proud moment for him to make his debut for Liverpool during the 4-3 win over Guangdong Sunray Cave in China on Wednesday.

Liverpool's new No.26 made an impressive second-half cameo as Kenny Dalglish changed his entire XI at half-time.

Adam told Liverpoolfc.tv: "It was nice to make my debut for Liverpool. The weather and humidity was tough but I think it was a good work out for us, and to get 45 minutes was good for me.

"I was itching to get on. It's always difficult to come on in the second half of the game but I thought we played some terrific stuff, we passed it well and considering this was our first game together I thought we did well.

"It was a good moment for me to put on the red shirt for the first time. As soon as I knew the opportunity to come to this club was happening I was delighted because I was desperate to come to this club.

"I'm very grateful to the manager and Damien Comolli for bringing me here and I just want to try and get fit for the start of the season now.

"I feel okay. We've got just over a month before the start of the season so I've got plenty of time to get fit.

"We will keep working hard and be ready for the start of the season."

He added: "When you join a big club like Liverpool you expect to have so many supporters and we have got that all over the world.

"No matter where you go in the world you are representing Liverpool FC and it's just an honour for me to be at this club.

"I can't wait for the next game now."
