Luis Suarez wasted no time making an impact on the Copa America - scoring the equaliser as Uruguay opened their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Peru.

The 24-year-old finished clinically with virtually the last touch of the first half after Paolo Guerrero put Peru ahead in San Juan, Argentina.

Suarez found himself with just the keeper to beat before slotting home his 18th goal on the international stage.

Later in the game our No.7 set up a great chance for Diego Forlan but the former Manchester United striker did not display his usual composure in front of goal.

Afterwards Suarez told reporters: "Being a forward, it's nice to score, but it's not satisfying to give everything and not win.

"We don't look for excuses. We had some chances. Perhaps they were more clear in the second half, but we don't have to look for excuses."

Next up for Uruguay is a Group C clash with Chile on Friday.
