Nathaniel Phillips reflected on a ‘big night’ for Liverpool after they beat Manchester United 4-2 on Thursday night to boost their chances of finishing in the Premier League top four.

The Reds secured another set of three points that could be vital in their quest for Champions League qualification as they came from behind at Old Trafford.

Diogo Jota scored the equaliser in the 34th minute before Roberto Firmino netted either side of half-time to put the visitors 3-1 up.

Marcus Rashford converted to set up a tense finale but the victory was secured thanks to Mohamed Salah’s breakaway and finish late on.

Read on for Phillips’ reaction in a post-match interview with Sky Sports...

On the game and what the result means...

It was a rollercoaster, it was a strange game and it took a lot from us, a lot of hard work. It was an ugly match but we had to make it that way again to make sure that we got the result. It's another step in the right direction. We've got another three games to go but it was a big night for us.

On whether he was worried after United took the lead in the first half...

I think we started quite slow, so we knew that despite the things that were happening at the start we still had an extra gear. Well I didn't feel too worried and I don't think the other boys did because we knew that we weren't performing at the level that we could do and it was just a matter of time before we turned it around, got ourselves together and started playing in the way that we should do.

On what the result does for the squad’s top-four hopes...

It takes us closer, it's another three points. It's no secret that it's necessary for us to win all our remaining games and that's another one ticked off. But we've got to pick ourselves up after tonight and dust ourselves off and get ready for the next game. We can enjoy it tonight but the focus is straight onto the next game.

On what the win gives the team for the remaining three games of the season...

It gives us something to build on and something to learn from. We started too slow, so we can learn from that and know that we can't do that in the future games. But obviously take confidence from it that we managed to bring ourselves back into the game, managed the game at the end – like we've struggled to do in a few previous games. So plenty. But like I said, we can't focus on tonight too much, we've got to turn our focus onto the next few games and finish the job that we've got ahead of us.
