Trent Alexander-Arnold felt Liverpool reached their highest level of the season so far in their 4-0 rout of Leicester City on Boxing Day.

The unbeaten Reds extended their lead of the Premier League to 13 points with a comprehensive display just four days after returning from Qatar as world champions.

After creating two goals for Roberto Firmino, Alexander-Arnold capped the night by rifling in a low finish, with James Milner also on target from the penalty spot.

Post-match, Alexander-Arnold spoke to Amazon Prime Video about the quality of the performance, his strike and the situation in the title race…

On whether that was Liverpool’s best performance of the season…

Yes, we played really good football, especially after all the travelling we’ve done and the intense period we’ve had. You put all that into account, then yes, it probably is our best performance of the season. We controlled the game for most parts, they never really had too many clear-cut chances. We’re happy with the clean sheet and to get four goals at a place like this is something to be proud of.

On his goal…

I don’t get on the scoresheet too often. [It was] a good counter-attack, I saw the space and Sadio has played a lovely ball and I thought, ‘Hit it first time’. It was good to get the goal but the three points are what we came here for and we’re made up to have them.

On the Reds’ lead in the Premier League…

You don’t think you’re going to be 13 points ahead but we’re happy to be in this position, we’re not going to take it for granted and we know the season is not over. We’re still not even halfway through the season so we need to keep going and try to push that advantage to the most we can because you’ve seen the Premier League and the results every week, anything can happen.
