Liverpool v Sevilla: Live match blog

Liverpool were beaten 2-1 by La Liga side Sevilla at Fenway Park in the second friendly of their USA pre-season tour, with Divock Origi's goal only a consolation.

Full Time

Liverpool 1-2 Sevilla

A game that you couldn't really call a 'friendly' ends with the win going to Sevilla courtesy of Pozo's last-minute goal.

Nolito and Origi had traded efforts in the first half at Fenway Park, where Gnagnon was sent off for a nasty foul on Larouci that resulted in the Liverpool left-back being stretchered off.

Next stop, New York for the Reds in the USA.

Goal

Goal - Pozo for Sevilla

Sevilla might have won this through Pozo, who is picked out by El Haddadi with a square pass and calmly rounds Mignolet before knocking his finish into the unguarded net.

Liverpool 1-2 Sevilla

88

Milner releases Fabinho in the area with a lofted pass but it's an awkward angle and height for the Brazilian, who skews his ambitious effort off target.

82

Smart defending by Adam Lewis to track a tricky low cross from the left wing and sweep it away from the back post and a potentially simple finish for a Sevilla man.

80

Substitution

Larouci is stretchered off following that awful tackle and is replaced by Bobby Duncan.

We'll bring you an update on Larouci as soon as we have it.

76

Red Card

Sent off

Gnagnon is shown a straight red card for an horrendous kick out on Larouci as the Liverpool man dribbled forward at pace.

73

Liverpool threaten a second as Kent springs a counter-attack and Milner slides a diagonal pass into space for Jones to attack, but Sevilla get bodies back and Milner's eventual thump is blocked away.

68

Chance!

Really unlucky.

Brewster causes problems with a high press and wins the ball, then feeds it into Jones' supporting run through to the box - the youngster tries his luck as the angle narrows but the goalkeeper blocks the strike well.

62

We're into the final half-hour at Fenway Park now and there has been a slight lull in the general tempo of the tie. The Reds are finding it difficult to produce genuine openings so far in the second half.

55

Double save

The Spanish team break through with a swift move and Mignolet is forced to make a double save to keep the score level - denying El Haddadi and then Vazquez.

49

Sevilla fashion the first opening of the half and it's Ocampos cutting in from the left who is eventually thwarted by a combination of Gomez and Milner as he shapes to shoot from inside the box.

46

Kick-Off

Second half

James Milner kicks off for Liverpool and the second half is under way.

Half-time

Substitution

All change

Klopp has made 11 substitutions for the second half and so the Liverpool XI is now as follows: Mignolet, Hoever, Gomez, Lovren, Larouci, Fabinho, Milner, Lewis, Jones, Kent, Brewster.

Half-time

The stats from the first half at Fenway...

Half Time

Liverpool 1-1 Sevilla

A feisty opening 45 minutes in the heat of Boston ends all square, with Nolito's clinical drive equalised just before the interval by Origi.

44

Goal

GOAL!! Divock Origi!

Liverpool quickly get back on level terms.

A corner in from Alexander-Arnold is kept alive by Phillips and the ball falls kindly for Origi to wallop into the net from close range.

Liverpool 1-1 Sevilla

Goal

GOAL - Nolito for Sevilla

There's a sense it has been coming and the La Liga outfit have taken the lead through the lively Nolito, who emphatically dispatches a sweeping finish past Lonergan from the left side of the area.

Yellow Card

And Van Dijk is the latest player to collect a caution.

35

Yellow Card

Carlos goes into the book now.

33

Chance

It's Sevilla again as Nolito brilliantly controls a cross-field pass deep on the left and curls a delivery back towards De Jong in the box - but it just evades his teammate.

30

Half an hour gone in Boston and there's nothing to separate the sides, with Sevilla having the better of the clear opportunities so far. We're back in play after a water break amid the heat here.

25

Match shot

Andy in action.

23

Chance

Sevilla have the upper hand at the moment and they forge another chance for De Jong, picked out unmarked by a cross from the right, but his downward header is misdirected wide from the centre.

20

Nolito and Banega have both been bright on the ball for Sevilla and they combine here for the latter to fire off a shot, after stepping past Henderson, though it's harmlessly off target.

13

Great save!

Liverpool lose possession in their own territory and Nolito instantly slips a pass through Phillips for De Jong's central run. But what looks a certain goal is denied by the sprawling Lonergan, who stops the shot with his legs. Excellent goalkeeping.

12

Yellow Card

Banega is booked after a rash challenge and reaction.

10

At the other end, Sevilla make space down their left-hand side and a cross into the middle finds De Jong in a decent position. The striker's first-time effort is an awkward one, however, and the danger passes.

Squad

4

Good strength from Origi sees the No.27 get away from Reguilon inside the area but his strike on the angle hits the goalkeeper's legs and goes out.

1

Chance!

Liverpool switch the play quickly from left to right and Alexander-Arnold sends in a troublesome low cross that looks set for Woodburn to tap in - but Navas recovers to sweep the ball away at the last.

The boss speaks...

Jürgen Klopp has detailed to LFCTV what he wants to see from Liverpool in tonight’s game – beginning with an improvement in set-piece defending after conceding two goals against Borussia Dortmund on Friday that stemmed from dead-ball situations.

He said: “One improvement to ask for is easy: set-piece defending. We conceded two goals from that [against Dortmund] and we don’t want to have that [again]. We played 48 hours ago pretty much, so we obviously didn’t train a lot in between, but we did a little bit and we spoke about it.

“Hopefully we can see that. Apart from that, [I want to see] us do good things in the game, which we did in the last game so let’s show it again, work on the other things, show our identity – which is really important. We are a hard-working side and when the conditions are hard, you have to work even harder.

“[We have to] play football still, prepare the direction and all that stuff – that’s what we want to see. But it’s how it is, pre-season is always about trial and error, then you get all the information together and we have to be ready. But now we are here and we want to play good football today.”

Klopp: We wanted these challenges

Soaring temperatures and tough opposition - but that's exactly what the manager wanted for Liverpool's pre-season tour.

"[This] will not be a friendly game as well," Jürgen Klopp told Liverpoolfc.com as he turned focus from the 3-2 defeat against Borussia Dortmund to the meeting with Sevilla.

"We wanted hard challenges, that's why we chose these teams as opponents and so now we have to fight."
