Liverpool face West Bromwich Albion at Anfield in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday as the Reds continue their bid to lift the trophy for an eighth time.

This stage of the competition has involved its fair share of great moments for the club down the years, and here we've picked out 10 of the best...

1. Barton's fab four

Back in 1932, Harold Barton became the first ever Liverpool player to score four goals in a FA Cup tie as Chesterfield were beaten 4-2 in the fourth round at Saltergate.

Barton's FA Cup milestone for George Patterson's Reds (pictured above) has since been matched by Alf Arrowsmith (v Derby County in 1964) and Tony Hateley (v Walsall in 1968) but is yet to be surpassed.

2. Anfield's record crowd

In February 1952, a crowd of 61,905 packed into Anfield to watch the Reds face Stan Cullis' much-fancied Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup fourth round. It remains a record attendance at the stadium.

It was the fifth time the two clubs had met in the competition, but the first at Anfield. On the three occasions Wolves had triumphed they had gone on to reach the final - in 1896, 1939 and 1949 - but quick-fire goals from Bob Paisley and Cyril Done gave the Reds a 2-1 victory here.

3. Dishing out derby blues

Having been relegated to the Second Division in 1954 and without an away win all season, Liverpool headed into their 1955 FA Cup fourth-round tie against Everton at Goodison Park as serious underdogs.

But they emerged with a shock victory that the Sunday Express dubbed 'The sensation of the season'. An opener from the imperious Billy Liddell (pictured), a second from Alan A'Court and a John Evans' brace gave the Reds a brilliant 4-0 triumph over their local rivals.

4. We're all on the way to Wembley

When Bill Shankly's Division One champions drew 1-1 with Fourth Division Stockport County at Anfield in 1965, their FA Cup campaign threatened to be a short one.

However, in the fourth-round replay at a rocking Edgley Park, Roger Hunt scored both goals in a 2-0 win that would help the Reds go all the way to the final.

Hunt would score at Wembley too, becoming the first Liverpool player ever to do so, as Shankly's team beat Leeds United 2-1 to win the club's first FA Cup.

5. Chopping down Forest

League runners-up and European Cup winners in 1979, Brian Clough's Nottingham Forest were Liverpool's biggest rivals when the clubs met for a mouth-watering FA Cup clash in January 1980.

Forest had beaten the Reds in the semi-final of the League Cup just four days prior, but there was to be no repeat at the City Ground. Goals from Kenny Dalglish and Terry McDermott gave Liverpool a 2-0 win to complete a sweet revenge mission for Bob Paisley's champions.

6. Reds end Chelsea hoodoo

Liverpool had beaten Chelsea en route to winning that first ever FA Cup in 1965, but in the 20 years following the Reds had lost on all three occasions when the Blues had stood between them and Wembley.

But not this time. Ian Rush and Mark Lawrenson scored either side of half-time to secure a 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge as Dalglish, in his first season as player-manager, went on to lead the Reds to a famous league and FA Cup double.

Liverpool beat Everton at Wembley to lift the cup seven days after Dalglish had scored the title-winning goal at Chelsea.

7. McMahon and Rush save the day

Everyone loves a cup upset - unless it's your team on the wrong end of it, that is. Liverpool went into their 1991 FA Cup clash with Brighton and Hove Albion with first-hand experience of just that having lost the last two meetings with the Seagulls in the competition, in 1983 and 1984.

It was close this time around too. The Reds were held to a 2-2 draw at Anfield in the initial tie and, having been taken to extra-time in the replay on the south coast, were just 15 minutes away from going out of the competition before Rush latched levelled the scores at 2-2.

Rushie then turned provider with six minutes remaining to set up Steve McMahon to claim victory with his second goal of the game. Brilliant FA Cup drama.

8. Fowler stars v Leeds

Robbie Fowler was at his best during this 2001 FA Cup fourth-round tie against Leeds United, leading the line with assured quality and playing a key role in late goals for Nick Barmby and Emile Heskey in a 2-0 win.

Liverpool, of course, went on to win the FA Cup as part of an incredible treble that also included the League Cup and UEFA Cup. Fowler scored in two of the three finals.

9. An unfamiliar hero against familiar foes

Ever since Liverpool slugged out that thrilling 4-3 win over Newcastle in 1996 - which was later officially recognised as the Premier League's 'Match of the Decade' - every clash between the clubs had been eagerly anticipated - and this fourth-round tie in 2004 was no different.

Both sides were level in the league on 33 points. This cup clash carried extra bragging rights and unlikely hero Bruno Cheyrou made sure they went to the Reds.

The Frenchman scored after 72 seconds and 61 minutes to secure a 2-1 win at Anfield. His second goal was his fourth in five games but it was also to be the midfielder's last for the Reds as he returned to Ligue 1.

10. Kuyt beats United

It doesn't get much better than scoring a late winner to dump your arch-rivals out of the FA Cup and Dirk Kuyt's 88th-minute strike for Liverpool against Manchester United in January 2012 sparked jubilant scenes both on and off the pitch at Anfield.

Kenny Dalglish's men would win the League Cup that season, and reach the FA Cup final where they lost to Chelsea.
