Jürgen Klopp's decision to use Loris Karius in goal against Leicester City was based on the challenging series of fixtures Liverpool are in the midst of.

The Reds host the Foxes at Anfield on Saturday and will then return to action fewer than 48 hours after the full-time whistle with another Premier League game at Burnley on Monday.

And the short turnaround between the two matches was the basis for the boss fielding Karius in place of Simon Mignolet.

“[It is] rotation, simple as that, because we play today and we play again in 48 hours,” said Klopp.

“I was always clear about that; if we can do it, if all are fit, we will not play the same goalkeeper in all these games. That’s it.”
