Jürgen Klopp has explained that the six changes to his line-up for today's meeting with Brighton were mostly forced upon him by fitness issues rather than a desire to rotate.

Joel Matip, Joe Gomez, Alberto Moreno, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Sadio Mane and Dominic Solanke have all dropped out of the starting XI after featuring from the off against Stoke City in midweek.

Jordan Henderson, Andy Robertson, Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, James Milner and Philippe Coutinho start in their place for the clash with Chris Hughton's team.

Explaining the changes, Klopp said: "We have an injury problem with Joel Matip, Joe Gomez is ill, Ragnar Klavan was ill until yesterday - he didn't train with the team even yesterday so we took him here to see how he felt today.

"A few other changes not because of injuries, that's the situation, [we're] a little bit different in the defence line."
