Emre Can watched Mohamed Salah's World Cup qualifying exploits with delight and has hailed his Liverpool teammate as 'the King of Egypt!'

The Reds forward was the hero for his country on Sunday evening, scoring two goals – one a 95th-minute winner from the penalty spot – to ensure a place at the 2018 tournament with a 2-1 victory over Congo.

Brilliant scenes of celebration ensued in Borg El Arab and Can, who enjoyed a fruitful night himself by netting a maiden strike in Germany colours, was thrilled to see Salah’s star turn when he later caught up on the action.

He told Liverpoolfc.com: “It’s crazy. I saw a few videos from the game and how the fans reacted. It was a penalty in the 95th minute. I’m very happy for Mo – he is the King of Egypt!”

Salah’s special night was merely a continuation of his club form, which has included six goals and successive Standard Chartered Player of the Month awards since his arrival from AS Roma in the summer.

“He has done amazing so far. He has scored a lot of goals, he has played brilliantly,” added Can.

“Off the pitch, he is a very good guy. He is an amazing signing for us and I hope he will score a lot of goals in the next few weeks as well.”
