Signed from Partick Thistle by George Patterson in April 1928, Jimmy McDougall had risen to prominence in his homeland courtesy of his goalscoring exploits.

However, soon after his arrival at Anfield, the Scot was moved into the half-back position and remained there throughout his 10-year stay.

Despite spending a decade with the Reds, McDougall failed to claim a single trophy, but he sits 44th in the club's all-time appearances list.
