Dejan Lovren hopes he and his fellow defenders can continue to get among the goals this season after contributing crucial openers in Liverpool's last two victories.

Last Friday, the Croatian's volleyed back-post finish from a Philippe Coutinho cross set the Reds on their way to an impressive 2-1 Premier League win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

And centre-half Ragnar Klavan got in on the act a few days later, netting smartly in the box as Derby County were defeated 3-0 in the EFL Cup third round.

Lovren is keen for the backline to keep popping up with goals, though he insists he'll be happy as long as Jürgen Klopp's team keep up their winning run.

"It was the right place, right moment," he told Liverpoolfc.com of his Chelsea goal.

"When you have the chance to score, hopefully we will, and I had that. But the most important thing is the team, the three points or the next round.

"Hopefully we will have a couple more defenders [scoring] this year."

Lovren sat out the Reds' cup win over the Rams at the iPro Stadium as Klopp made seven changes to his starting line-up from the victory against Chelsea.

And the 27-year-old was impressed with the manner in which a much-changed team professionally dispatched Championship opposition.

"We had a couple of changes but we have quality players who can [come in]," he added.

"When you have injuries, they come in and you don't see the difference. It was an unbelievable game and we showed our skills again."

Lovren will hope to return to action when Liverpool take on Hull City in the Premier League at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds' sole defeat thus far this season came against newly-promoted opposition in Burnley, but the defender insists lessons have been heeded.

"We learned from our mistakes in the past and we know what we can expect from Hull City," he continued.

"They are a good team, defending well, so it will be tough definitely.

"But if we play like [against Derby] and in the games before then we won't have a problem."
