Post-match

Klopp's verdict

The manager has held his post-match press conference and declared himself pleased with the manner of his team's display in beating Derby tonight.

He said: "We were better and deserved to win, we created chances. Could we have done better? Yes, a lot. Is it important tonight? No, because that’s what you want to have. You need to be 100 per cent professional, be really serious and take games like these like they are. They could be difficult but it wasn’t difficult because of us. The opponent was ready for each opportunity but we didn’t give them [any]. So it was good."

Full Time

Derby 0-3 Liverpool

90

Two minutes added on in this tie.

79

Yellow Card

Hughes is cautioned.

79

Emre Can has looked eager for a goal since coming on and the Germany international is not far wide with a curling effort after dashing to the edge of the box and holding the ball strongly.

77

Substitution

A big moment in the fledgling career of Ejaria as he takes to the field for Firmino.

77

Yellow Card

Johnson is shown a yellow card.

76

Yellow Card

Booking for Grujic.

75

Full repertoire now being sung by the visiting fans at iPro Stadium, with 'Three Little Birds' their current ditty of choice as their team seek to confirm a place in the fourth round.

Deadly Divock!

63

Substitution

After a goal and two assists, Coutinho is done for the evening - replaced by Ings.

Lowe comes on for Olsson.

60

Should be four for Liverpool as Coutinho knocks a back-post pass across the six-yard box to compatriot Firmino, but the forward's instant shot is blocked by Mitchell.

56

Substitution

Emre Can replaces Henderson for Liverpool.

Elsnik is on for Weimann for Derby.

54

Goal

GOAL!!! ORIGI!!

Three for the Reds! He's made a habit of scoring in this competition and Origi does it again, breaking into space along the right side of the box and lifting a clinical finish into the roof of the net.

3-0.

50

Goal

GOAL!!! COUTINHO!!

No messing about from the Reds early in the second half and they double the lead as Coutinho exchanges passes with Firmino, bursts into the box and calmly slots past the goalkeeper.

46

Substitution

A change for the hosts as Ince replaces Baird for the second half.

Half Time

Derby 0-1 Liverpool

The Reds have dominated this game and lead at the interval thanks to Ragnar Klavan's conversion from close range midway through the half.

45

Yellow Card

Moreno is booked.

41

Now Origi attempts to catch the 'keeper off guard with a fierce low strike from 20 yards. Mitchell reacts and parries, and the Reds can't seize upon the rebound.

39

Coutinho fancies his chances from a long-range free-kick, slightly left of centre, and it's a decent hit but close enough to the goalkeeper to be handled well.

37

A real opportunity for the Reds to add to their tally as a slack pass allowed Origi to break forward with only one Derby man back. He sprints into the space and has Firmino free in support alongside him, but a poor touch stops the move.

37

Will Hughes sends in a dangerous free-kick from the right flank that Lucas deals with well before an opponent can capitalise as it reaches the area.

A delighted scorer!

26

Liverpool threaten a second as Origi gets half a sight of goal. The Belgian twists and turns his marker inside the box to create room to strike and Mitchell has to beat his blast away.

24

Goal

GOAL!!! KLAVAN!!

The Reds have the lead their start has merited and it's a slightly unlikely source - Ragnar Klavan with his first for the club!

Coutinho's inswinging corner was not dealt with by Derby and a fortuitous bounce of the ball presented the defender with a chance to prod home from yards out.

1-0 Liverpool.

21

Alert defending from Matip as the Rams tried to release Bent in behind in response to his diagonal run. The Reds man recovers quickly to mop up, though the linesman raised his flag in any case.

15

A scare for the Reds as Henderson goes down with a knock and requires treatment, but the skipper is soon back into the action.

Some early match shots from iPro Stadium...

8

And now Firmino tries his luck from distance, aiming for the top right corner, but the No.11 is off target with his drive.

5

Bright start by the Reds here and there was a nervous moment for Derby there as Coutinho fed Moreno in the left channel and the Spaniard's low cross struck a defender and looped goalward - but wide.

3

Jordan Henderson scored a screamer at Chelsea on Friday night, of course, and the captain has the first effort of this one with a snap half-volley from outside the area. Over the bar this time.

Carson embraces Reds challenge

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Scott Carson is now a Ram and the stopper speaks in the Derby match programme for tonight's game.

He says: “When I look at Jürgen Klopp and see him get interviewed, he always makes me smile. You can see why so many players want to play for him. When you are a manager and you have that, it takes you a long way. We all know that he is going to put a strong side out and we saw what they did to Burton and we know it’s going to be a tough game. Liverpool have got a strong history of doing well in the League Cup – they reached the final last year – and we know they will come with every intention of getting through to the next round.”

Opposition watch

Speaking to the press ahead of this evening's game, Derby County manager Nigel Pearson accepted that his side are underdogs against Premier League opposition.

But, with the Rams playing in front of their own fans, he expects them to make their visitors work for a result.

He said: "It’s a tough tie for us but we’re at home and it’s important to put a performance in. I know that our players are looking forward to playing the game. For them, to play against some of the best players in the country is a motivation in itself."

'We're in it to win it'

So, how seriously is Jürgen Klopp taking this tournament?

Very...

"It makes only sense to be part of a competition, especially cup competitions, with the aim to win it – there is no other reason why we should start in it.

"We showed last year that it’s really exciting to be part of it. We had a lot of great games and being part of it helped us a lot, to learn more about each other and how we react in specific situations. That’s what we want to do again."

Pre-match

Liverpool produced a professional and clinical performance at Burton Albion to reach this stage of the competition, claiming a 5-0 victory at the Pirelli Stadium in August.

Rams report

Derby will be hoping to buck the trend of their early-season form when they welcome the Reds to the iPro Stadium. They have won just one of their eight Championship fixtures so far, scoring only twice.

A 1-1 draw at Bristol City on Saturday followed successive home defeats against Ipswich Town and Newcastle United, leaving the Rams 20th in the table.

Pre-match

We're sure the first team would be satisfied if they can replicate Liverpool's U23s tonight.

Michael Beale's young Reds beat Tottenham Hotspur 6-2 last night, with Cameron Brannagan scoring twice and Harry Wilson, Ben Woodburn, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Brooks Lennon also on target.

Origi: There'll be no complacency

Divock Origi is eager for another chance to impress this evening, after opening the scoring in the second-round win at Burton Albion last month.

The Belgian has been in England long enough to understand the challenge of facing a lower-league opponent and insists Liverpool will need 'big hearts' to beat Derby.

He told Liverpoolfc.com: "That’s the special thing about England – you never have an easy game. You could see even against Burton, they had a lot of quality and this will be the same. We have to go there with big hearts and be willing to fight, but I’m sure if we do this we can win, for sure."
