Sadio Mane is an 'exciting signing' for Liverpool who is likely to get even better under Jürgen Klopp, according to Neil Mellor.

The Senegal international is currently readying himself for his first pre-season campaign with the Reds after completing a switch from Southampton on Tuesday.

Mane arrives with an impressive track record in the Premier League, having scored 21 goals in 67 appearances in the English top-flight over the course of two seasons.

But former Liverpool striker Mellor expects even more from the winger as he continues to develop with Klopp's guidance.

"I think it's an exciting signing, he's a player who is very capable in the final third and we've seen glimpses of him producing [that] at Southampton," he said.

"You just get the feeling, with him arriving at Liverpool with somebody like Jürgen Klopp, who really can get the best out of players, it's quite exciting to think of his potential.

"We've seen glimpses of him but there's potential to see a little bit more consistency because in the final third he can really be the difference."

Mellor also highlighted Mane's pace as a key factor in his threat, insisting the wideman could add a new dimension to the Reds' attack.

"You look at Mane and you think he's certainly going to be a goal threat," he added.

"I don't think he's an out-and-out centre-forward but he can play centrally, on the left, on the right of a three behind the striker.

"One of his biggest strengths is pace, but I think the biggest thing about his pace is that acceleration that he has.

"Some players are quick but he has that real acceleration to get away from players and buy himself a little bit more space in the final third.

"On the counter-attack next season he will be a big player for Liverpool with that pace he possesses."
