Philippe Coutinho has been voted by Liverpool fans as the Standard Chartered Player of the Month for March.

The midfielder was in fine form last month as he made four appearances for Jürgen Klopp's side, scoring two goals and bamboozling countless defenders along the way.

His most notable contribution came as he netted a wonderful solo strike at Old Trafford to help the Reds into the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

And supporters have recognised Coutinho's efforts by choosing him from a four-man shortlist featuring Emre Can, Adam Lallana and Roberto Firmino in a poll on our official Twitter account, @LFC.

As the Brazilian collected the gong at Melwood on Tuesday, he said: "I am happy, as I always say when I receive this award. It is very rewarding for me and it gives me confidence to continue to work hard and achieve positive things."

Reflecting on his recent goalscoring spree, which has seen him net in each of this last three games to take his tally for the season so far to a career best of 10, Coutinho added: "I know that in the position I play I have to create chances, score and that is something I have to improve, I try to improve. I know I have to improve it. It is something I search for. I hope I am getting better at it and that I am helping my teammates.

"Perhaps in that position [on the left], when I suddenly cut inside space opens up giving me the opportunity to try to score. I think the team has been playing well and that, of course, helps everybody. I hope I continue getting better, I am trying to learn from the coach and my teammates so I can play better and help them."

After moving into double figures, Coutinho is now Liverpool's top scorer for 2015-16 - one ahead of fellow Brazil forward, Roberto Firmino.

The South American duo have struck up a visable understanding on the pitch this term, and the Reds' No.10 said: "Firmino is a great player, as I have said many times. It is very good and even easy to play beside him. His quality, he is a strong player who scores a lot. So he is a very important player for our team.

"But he is not the only one, we have Lallana, Sturridge, everybody is playing well. Divock when he enters the game. Christian is a great attacker. We have great players and we hope we are getting better."

Liverpool’s overall form in March was outstanding – a 3-2 defeat to Southampton the only blip in a five-game month that included the Europa League elimination of Manchester United.

Coutinho feels no small part of the Reds’ upturn in fortunes and performance level is down to Klopp.

“He is a great coach, as I have said before,” he stated. “He is accessible, speaks to everybody and he always tries to help.

“He always corrects the mistakes that happen in the games. Even when we play very well he is always looking for things that can improve. This has been good for us as a group. This has been excellent, the way he searches for what was negative so we can play better next time.”
