Liverpool FC Legends' first official match ended in defeat to Real Madrid on Sunday, so Jamie Carragher is already out for revenge.

The Bootle-born defender featured in Ian Rush's starting XI as a star-studded line-up of former Reds heroes surrendered a two-goal lead to lose 4-2 at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Carragher insists the result did not ruin his day, however, and he is already planning a return fixture against the Spanish giants at Anfield.

"It was good, I enjoyed it, it was nice to get the boots on," he said.

"I was fortunate enough to play in an arena like the Bernabeu and you rarely get to play there.

"I've only played there once, twice including a pre-season friendly, so it's not something that happens too often.

"I'm a bit disappointed with the result having been 2-0 up but it's great to be involved with the charity, with Real Madrid, and it's our first game as an official Legends team and hopefully many more to come.

"Hopefully [the game] will be reciprocated at Anfield in a couple of years' time but it's an honour for the club to ask me to play in this game.

"I think they play it every year so it's right that Liverpool have had our chance to play and hopefully in a couple of years' time Zidane and the boys from Madrid will come to Anfield."

Carragher was unfortunate to be penalised for a handball in the box that led to the hosts regaining the initiative thanks to a thunderous Roberto Carlos penalty.

And when asked if Liverpool were hard done by, he joked: "I think so [with] a couple of handballs, but I'm sure that when we play them at Anfield I'm hoping it will be the other way around!"
