Liverpool Ladies star Fara Williams played the full 90 minutes as England were edged out 1-0 by France in their opening Women's World Cup fixture on Tuesday evening.

The No.4 had a solid game in a midfield holding role just in front of the back four, but in a tight encounter a strike of sublime quality won it for France.

Eugenie Le Sommer fired a great effort into the top corner of the net in the 29th minute to give her side the victory.

Mark Sampson's team are next in action on Saturday night when they face Mexico.
