Philippe Coutinho has picked up his fifth Player of the Month award of the season, having been voted Liverpool's star man for April in association with Standard Chartered.

Fans had already selected the No.10 as their standout player in October, December and January and he earned a fourth award by picking up the February prize.

The 22-year-old has now clinched further recognition for April, after claiming 58 per cent of the total votes cast in our online poll to see off closest challenger Simon Mignolet.

Coutinho started the month in brilliant form, netting the only goal of the game against Blackburn at Ewood Park to take Liverpool to Wembley in the FA Cup.

The Brazilian maestro also notched in the disappointing semi-final defeat to Aston Villa in the capital that followed.

Upon receiving the Standard Chartered-sponsored award at Melwood, Coutinho told Liverpoolfc.com: "I must say thank you to the fans.

"Once again I’d like to stress how important this award is for me as it’s been helping boost my confidence. I’m happy I was voted for by the fans and won it again."

The midfielder also acknowledged the significance of earning recognition from supporters for the fifth time this campaign.

"I’ve always said I’m grateful to our supporters and to the club. I’ve had a great reception from the fans from day one, which makes me feel comfortable to do my job on the pitch," he continued.

"I’m very happy at Liverpool and supporters play a big part in it – not only for me but for all the squad. They’re always behind us there at Anfield – that has a huge significance for us."
