Ian Ayre has hailed the 'fantastic' achievements of Liverpool Ladies after the back-to-back title winners celebrated with an awards evening at Anfield on Monday night.

A dramatic final day of the Women's Super League campaign last month saw Matt Beard's team successfully retain their championship in incredible circumstances at the Select Security Stadium.

The Reds jumped from third to first by beating Bristol Academy and taking advantage of a defeat for Chelsea Ladies and draw for Birmingham City to scoop silverware a second time.

Ayre was in attendance to watch the side's now annual Player of the Season ceremony at the first team's ground, and the club's chief executive officer shared his delight with the Ladies' progress.

"They really have done fantastically well - Matt and the girls have given us so much," he enthused to Sky Sports. "There is nothing more we could have asked for and it is very fitting to be at Anfield to celebrate with them.

"We saw very early in the first year the influence Matt had on this team. He had the foresight to bring in the right quality of players in such a short space of time.

"Hats off to Matt for what he has done because he was really at the heart of that. We couldn't want for a better result really."
