Summer signing Emre Can has delivered a glowing assessment of his Liverpool teammate Jordan Henderson, praising the vice-captain's dedication, physical prowess and 'battling' characteristics.

Can, who arrived at Anfield in July from Bayer Leverkusen, is currently recuperating from an ankle injury he sustained during Germany U21s' 8-0 demolition of Romania in early September.

The powerful midfielder managed two cameo appearances for the Reds prior to picking up the problem, coming on to replace Joe Allen in both matches against Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.

Despite having his minutes on the field and general training time curtailed, Can has had ample scope to examine his new teammates at close quarters - and the 20-year-old admits he's been bowled over by Henderson in particular.

He told Liverpoolfc.com: "Jordan Henderson had a great season in the last campaign and I liked what I saw last term. I think he's a player who gives everything for the club.

"He's a battler and you can see that in training too. He's definitely a great player and he plays good football. He wasn't made vice-captain for no reason. I think I can learn a lot from him."

Henderson was installed as deputy to Steven Gerrard in September as Brendan Rodgers acknowledged the 24-year-old's remarkable progression from newcomer finding his feet in the first team to a pivotal proponent of the Reds' on-pitch philosophy.

Since assuming vice-captain responsibilities, the former Sunderland man has refused to lower the tempo and has delighted Kopites with continued displays of desire and dedication, netting a crucial winner against West Bromwich Albion last weekend.

"He's a whole-hearted player," continued Can. "He's full of running and he gives 100 per cent for the club in every game and in every training session. I think I can learn from every player in my position. I'll give my all in training and I'll see what I can learn."
