Ian Rush believes the new attack of Mario Balotelli and Daniel Sturridge can strike fear into defences all over the country and Europe this season.

Our new No.45 signed on the dotted line for the Reds on Monday, subject to registration, and the Welshman insists it could prove to be an inspired swoop by Brendan Rodgers.

Rush said: "We all know about his football skills and let's hope he produces that now. Add that with Sturridge and Sterling as well and we've got a young side with potential for the future.

"When Suarez was playing with Sturridge, they interacted with each other. They read the game together. Balotelli and Sturridge will do that. It's called a football brain. I'm sure Balotelli and Sturridge will do the same.

"Sturridge learned a lot from Suarez and I'm sure Balotelli will learn from Sturridge."

Rush insists the Kop will welcome Balotelli with open arms and believes he has a wonderful opportunity to express his talents under Rodgers.

He added: "He has had so many clubs so early but I think now he is learning to mature.

"He has been given an absolutely fantastic chance and the supporters will give him every chance. He can't ask for anything more now. He is at a great club."
