10-man Liverpool U18s clinched a spirited point as they played out an entertaining 2-2 draw with Derby County at the Academy on Saturday morning.

The visitors took the lead after 10 minutes in Kirkby when Charles Vernam saw his initial long-range effort repelled by Andy Firth; however, he reacted quickest to turn home the loose ball.

Derby threatened throughout the opening 45 minutes, and only a fine point-blank-range stop from Firth denied Offrande Zanzala doubling their advantage.

Liverpool drew level moments after half-time when Tom Brewitt met a right-wing cross with a thumping header.

But the Reds' momentum was disrupted when Lewis Travis was show a straight red card on 58 minutes following a heavy challenge.

Holding the numerical advantage, Derby thought they'd gone some way to securing all three points when substitute Alex Babos netted with a header - but the lively Corey Whelan crossed for Jerome Sinclair to tap home a leveller with six minutes remaining following an excellent team move.
