A promising local footballer will now achieve his dream of representing Great Britain at the Amputee World Cup in Mexico thanks to an appeal on Liverpoolfc.com by Jamie Carragher's 23 Foundation.

Scouser Tony Mitchell, who had his right arm amputated from just below the elbow, will now play in Mexico during the tournament in November. He used to be a midfielder but he will play for the GB Amputee team in goal.

The 23 Foundation managed to raise £2,000 to send Tony to Mexico.

Mike Lepic from the 23 Foundation, said: "We would like to say a huge thank you to Jens Skaara for his large donation and a big thank you to Liverpool FC for their help and support of our good causes.

"We would like to wish Tony and the lads all the best in Mexico where the GB team is currently ranked number five in the world."
