Mamadou Sakho believes France's 5-2 victory over Switzerland on Friday night demonstrated their strength to the watching world.

Didier Deschamps' team turned in a commanding display in Salvador to top Group E, with the Liverpool centre-back figuring for 65 minutes before being withdrawn.

"The team are looking strong," Sakho told FIFA.com. "It's always easier when everyone on the team is fully committed to doing their bit defensively.

"It's true that we backed off a bit; we dropped our level somewhat and Switzerland really had a go. We went on to concede twice and all credit to them, but we played our game and stayed focused from beginning to end, and that's what we should take away from the match."

Sakho has formed a formidable partnership with Real Madrid's Raphael Varane at the heart of France's defence so far in Brazil.

However, the Reds powerhouse is eager to highlight how impressive Les Bleus have been as a unit.

Sakho added: "It's true that our partnership was on song [against Switzerland], but it was a great display across the board."
