Brazilian legend Cafu has reiterated his belief Jon Flanagan has the potential to emulate his success within the game.

Having been alerted to the outstanding performances of the Liverpool full-back via Twitter last season, the former AC Milan star visited Merseyside prior to the final game of the campaign against Newcastle to check out the young Scouser for himself.

In town as a guest of compatriot Lucas Leiva, Cafu visited the Reds' team hotel and spent time chatting to Flanagan before taking in the game at Anfield.

It's fair to say he was left suitably impressed.

Cafu said: "Lucas Leiva invited me to see Liverpool play and I was able to see Flanagan on the pitch. I was told that his style of play is reminiscent of my own, and he could be the next Cafu.

"He has a great future, he's a good player and plays for the English team. He's very strong, has a lot of will power, he has skills and this power plus his quickness may lead him to becoming a great full back - similar to the player I was."
