Luis Suarez has once again lavished praise on Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, highlighting him as the ultimate teammate.

The mesmeric marksman, who has been described as one of the world's best players following a phenomenal season for the Reds, credits the skipper for helping him shoulder tough times and take his game to new levels.

Suarez's acclaim for Gerrard is endless. When asked by Sports Illustrated who he regards as his premier teammate, the 27-year-old said: "This is tough. I've had a lot of great teammates who have been good players.

"As a player, these days, I would say Gerrard for his impact on my career.

"Not only as a person [in my life] but also as player on the field, because of how he speaks of me, how he's been there in difficult moments, and I appreciate that very much."

The admiration is mutual, with the England international already stating: "I've been privileged to play alongside some great players during my years at Liverpool but nobody comes close to Luis.

"He's not only the best, he's the best by some distance."
