Liverpool Ladies maintained an unbeaten start to their FA Women's Super League season after they were held to a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Notts County at Meadow Lane on Sunday.

In a game where clear-cut goalscoring opportunities were scarce, Notts were the more dangerous of the two sides early on, as a high pressing tactic placed the reigning champions under pressure.

Early chances fell to County's Desiree Scott and Jess Clarke; however, neither had enough quality to beat Libby Stout, who has yet to concede in Liverpool's three league games so far this season.

At the other end, Gemma Davison's effort was deflected into the path of Natasha Dowie, who steered goalwards, but her strike was a little too high and the ball flew inches over the crossbar.

Clarke then drew an outstanding save from the Liverpool 'keeper just prior to the interval, after she let fly with a strike destined for the top corner - and at half-time the scores remained goalless.

Dania Susi proved a thorn in Liverpool's side throughout the encounter, and she was most dangerous mid-way through the second half when her effort from inside the penalty area brushed the post as Stout watched on powerless.

Then Liverpool went close to clinching a winner. Fara Williams manoeuvred into space inside the penalty area and fired goalwards, only for Rachel Corsie to make a brave block and ensure that at the final whistle, the points were shared.

Liverpool Ladies: Stout, Bronze, Easton, Bonner, Schroder, Omarsdottir, Davison, Williams, Da Costa (Dale 87), Harris (Hodson 74), Dowie.
